I know when I first started this game I, like most others, was clueless and essentially nothing more than a flying target (which I mainly blame on the original Red Baron plane.. grrrr...) Anyways, I studied and learned the hard way how to be a better dogfighter, but I couldn't for the life of me hit anything with a bomb! Reck!ess however took the time to coach me and help me become a more proficient bomber. How about an award for those that spend their own time helping to train other pilots to be better and more effective.. perhaps a Best Flight Instructor award?

Btw,where is a list of categories and results for past awards?

They whole HOH crew did a great job with a very difficult task. It seems that the biggest challenge was dealing with the us-vs-them mentality that so many here can't seem to shake. Just by saying this I'm running the risk that someone will try to jump on me for it. Relax. I'm not pointing any fingers. The pack mentality (us-vs-them) is a very natural thing.

Just take a look at fans of real world sports teams and you can see this dynamic play out. There have been many cases of people being jumped because they were wearing the wrong hat or jersey. Heck, in real life gang violence there is often little difference besides whether someone wears red or blue... what could be more futile? It was a great idea to limit the ability of a squad to vote only for their own members...but that made a bit of a disadvantage for those in large squads.

Limiting votes to only those with a previous forum history helped to keep second accounts made just for shill votes out... but it also limited the ability for the HOH to bring new people to the forum, and it didn't discourage people from using established second accounts.

You'd think that a small community who shares the love of the same game could rise enough to support the HOH. It would be helpful if people would encourage their friends to play it fair. I'm sure some do; but like in so many other instances, the "bad apples" end up with the advantage. Maybe they aren't really "bad apples" if they are just supporting their own team.

The Olympics were made to help cross the gaps between different cultures in a celebration of human strength, skill and determination. It's great to see when a particular athlete is recognized as an individual by people around the world. It's also largely in good spirit to track the "medal count"... when people puff up in pride when their county stacks up a pile of medals in a wide range of events. Sure there have been many scandals over the years and it is tragic when a tainted judge is able to throw the results away from someone who has truly earned the award, but it seems the Judges are chosen among people who are believed to be of the highest integrity. It would simply not work to have the fans, spectators and competitors choose the winners.

Competitions for entertainment (not just objective skill) work fine with crowd feedback because popularity is what it's all about. Votes here for the HOH are voted on this way and as long as people recognize that and are okay to accept it as such everything should be fine. If we want something that is more objective... maybe we need to brainstorm a new method of judging.

This was supposed to have been done a while ago. My apologies, Life has been pretty busy.

Even though things have changed a bit with the Hall Of Honor and we haven't been very active, we are still here.
