(non-copyrighted photo)

The tanks in "Dogfight", with the flat-topped hull, the long-barreled gun and the sloping front with the machine gun mounted to the right, are obviously German WW2 Panther tanks.

The Panther on this photo had been captured by the Russians, hence the star on the turret.

To study the tanks in detail, in peace and quiet, and from the viewpoint of an airplane, I used "training mission 3", where you shoot an airplane, destroy two tanks and bomb the hangars.

Although these two tanks are easy to kill, they are far from innocuous, so I leave it to you to find out how I managed to get so close to a living tank without being shot.

They are obvious Panthers, down to the little Wehrmacht cross on the side.

This photo is of the same tank, seen from the front, with the driver's window hatch to the right and the machine gun to the left.

My point was to take a closer look at the tanks, and not absolutely everyone knew what tanks they were. I for one, didn't.

I also intend to continue this thread about the tanks with other things - that I believe are fun.

So then of course you know what they look like.

My first thought was they had to be Panthers or perhaps Tigers, but I had to look it up. I also had to check up on the T34. :)

No a pazerfaust anto tank weapon for soliders rifle takes to long to kill with
Or a panzershreck would work

I inherited a box of 30-06 armour piercing rounds from a friend who had been in the army. Incased in each of the rather ordinary looking projectiles there is an 1/8" thick tungsten alloy needle.

I tried shooting one of these at a 2 inch thick piece of steel, and the needle went straight through.

Used against an armoured car or a light tank, once inside the needle ricochets and whirls around a bit like the knife of a blender, and has a good chance of hitting one of the crew members before it comes to rest. So even in real life, rifles do in fact work against light armour plating.

Once when I crashed with a tank I was surprised to see it bounce along away from me like a rubber ball. It is not what one would expect of a 70 ton Panther tank, so I wanted to test it out a little further.

How easy are these tanks to push over?

After having tried several times to land behind tanks in the Dogfight game and drive up to them with the Albatross, and been shot by the first pilot who came by, I decided I had to try it out first in practice mission 3.

I shot both tanks and landed and drove up to one of them and started pushing. It was on fire, so I expected to crash. But I didnt, and I could in fact move the tanks with the nose of the airplane!

Taking great care to push V E R Y carefully, I managed to push both tanks along on the grass and onto the airstrip, and made a small collection of burning tanks on the tarmac at the end of the airfield.

Gosh, I'm so angry. About an hour ago I was in a game of carrier. I was defending mine and I came back down to re-arm myself. However, I landed funny and SOMEHOW I landed on the edges of my wings. Like...on the side. Perfectly balance. Perfectly sideways.

However, I had put my iTouch into "Safe Mode" (so I could get great framerates/performance) which disabled my screenshot add on. And I never got to take the incredible picture. It will probably never happen to me again, hahahah.

So lesson: Always have screenshot software available.

Oh and I know this is somewhat off topic. Veidar's screenshots just reminded me of this.

That would REALLY have been fun to see!

I once landed perfectly level on top of the row of hangars, and was even able to take off again. It happened by accident, of course, and I was not able to repeat it! But as gymnastics go, that's nothing compared to landing sideways on the tips of the wings! :-)

Yeah!

You know, I've never attempted to replicate it before...

Perhaps it's time I boot up Practice Mission 1 and see if I can pull of this act! :)

Lol I have done that 7 times in the time I have played. It is very cool when you do it and when you want to take off you just roll your plane like in mid air. When you roll thoue make sure you roll the way your wheals face so you don't get stuck upside down.

You know that pop can balance trick? Where theres a little left of soda in the bottom and you tilt the can on the slopes of the bottom of the can? Well I did this... With the nose of my plane and the wheels. Sadly, no screen shots for me. Sony Ericsson cant be rooted. Only manual and I dont have the time and patience to do that.
