Just so you know, I cannot text in Elite. I wouldn't want anyone to think I wasn't being sociable, I cannot even say hi. So I'll wiggle my wings when anyone should say hello.

Turn off Custom Keyboard in settings and see if that works.

Yeah I had the same issue, now I can text but the keyboard covers the screen on my cell phone.

Sometimes it happens to me when I have too many aps running on my tablet. Shutting them down and restarting game usually works

Try Google keyboard if custom keyboard not working and resizing the keyboard if it takes too much screen is to click on gear icon like you see for setting just left or right to space bar. On clicking it will give option of keyboard height, adjust it to suit your requirement.
