. Wigbomb wrote: I'm sure it all began as a joke, Cal. But as we talked about it in this and another thread a lot of us liked the idea. When Strachan, SheiBe, Dent and several others said they were in I started getting the basics organized, simple as that. I have no idea who's in what squadron, it's entirely up to them to resign, join, fly independent, whatever they choose. So far the age range seems to be shaping up as "anyone legal to vote, drive and drink" but we may get more specific about that. Primarily it serves as a way to band together with people of your own general frame of reference and experience, know what I mean? There's no substance to the other squadrons here, just names and logo banners. With this "old people" squad, as you call it, there'll be a stronger sense of bonding with fellow members cuz none of us are 12, 15, 17 years old. Most of us have kids that age, some have grandkids! And some, if it's cool with the group, will be in their twenties.

When you say I have half of your pilots what do you mean? I seriously don't know, I just made a list of the guys who've said, "Count me in." or something to that effect. Nobody is "starting" this, we just all had the same basic thought at about the same time.

Don't drink and drive. ;)

lol, I meant that a lot of the guys on that list were Enigmas, and fairly high ranking ones at that. If they want to leave, that's their choice, of course.
See you in the skies!

. Wigbomb wrote: Alright gentlemen, here we go:

First, the squadron name. Choose your top one, two or three and I'll tally the scores. If a majority of us doesn't like any of these I'll go back to the drawing board.

Lords of Time (alt: Timelords)

Lazarus

Methuselah

Dementia

Baby Killers

Phoenix Envy

DDD (Dinosaur Doom Dealers)

Bones Brigade

MOM (Mean Old Men)

ESoD (Elder Statesmen of Death)

Pterodactyls

Grecian Formula Die

Primeval

Mid-Air Crisis

I have a ton but let's start with these. Send me some thumbs, up or down!

Now, core members:

SheiBe Kopf
B Strachan
Dentinhead
Farcanal
dogss
Bopes
btschuman
Mavrk12
iQQi
SB467
oedius
. Wigbomb

Members we should invite:

Rickenfaker
Paul Mantz, Jr.
General Jackson

I'll need you all to help flesh out that list. I know I'm forgetting a bunch of players who might fit the profile and be interested. Please let me know if I've left anyone out who's already indicated interest via this thread.

Here's something we should discuss; should we maintain a strict age limit or allow for some younger players who exhibit the "right stuff"? Anyone under 21 is out, I assume, but what about some twenty-something prodigy or phenom who plays with respect and expresses him/herself maturely? I've already had some feelers from a couple such players who'd be great additions to our ranks. Batman had his Robins so I don't think it would necessarily dilute the original "adults only" premise to have a few under 30 teammates, sorta like apprentices (although many of them could teach some of us - yours truly in particular, few things! - but if most of us do feel that way we'll drop the idea, establish a minimum age and go from there.

So...confirm that you're on the list...vote for a name...suggest players to invite...let me know your feelings about pre-30 year olds. That should be plenty for now. I'll get to work on a logo/insignia as soon as we've agreed on a name.

I'll admit, the possibilities for wiseassisms if we call ourselves MOM crack me up! Can you picture MOM above all of our rank icons in-game? There's a psychological edge to twelve year old kids seeing that bearing down on them that cannot be ignored...

Wig

I'll weigh in with rankorder preference for my top three on this list:
1. MOM
2. Timelords
3. Bones Brigade

Perhaps interested "under aged" flyers should be admitted with the rank of 'prodigy'...?

Thanks for all the effort on this Wig...adds an interesting dynamic to the game...beatea

I think MOM work's great. Baby Killers Is kinda going the wrong way... MOM has a good accronyme and kinda gives a little chuckle to the day.

MOM..... has my vote.

Yeah, Dent, of course I knew "Baby Killers" was horribly inappropriate, that's why I threw it in there. Whenever you're writing material for a script or a client you always give 'em something they can readily reject. Makes 'em feel like they're calling the shots. ;) In this case it was just knowing that some of the cooler underage players I've gotten to know would be following the thread and might get a backhanded laugh from the reference.

I think you and Mr. Strachan are dead on; MOM strikes just the right note. But I'm keeping it wide open to everyone's preferences. Be interesting to see where the other votes fall.

Funny stuff, Tex! And true, of many. Then there are those underagers who blow me outta the sky without missing a sip of their Sunny D. Long as they don't indulge in the smack talking you mentioned, which is wholly uncool, they have my respect.

Hey, what's your exact in-game name? I can't find you in the rankings under "Big Tex" though I know we've flown together several times.

beateaschuman, sir,

I do really dig the "Prodigy" idea. This shouldn't be like an exclusive oldies dance club with a gray bearded bouncer on the door kicking out all the kids. Once we have the core up and flying there should be room for a number of remarkable young players to join us. As long as they're "of age" and show a healthy respect for their fellow players and the game. Perhaps we should solicit "applications", let any interested player drop us a note and invite us to invite him/her in. I'm sure we''d recognize the players we want in our squadron from a few simple lines.

Farcanal,

Seems we're generally agreeing on admitting a select level of younger player, more to do with character than flat-out skill. "Mature", as you say. But some plane wielding beasts in the process wouldn't hurt!

Pulling this together is my pleasure, my brother, I'm looking forward to seeing it take shape.

I'm waiting to see what actually happens with squadrons before I join one, but being an oldster myself, I can see the appeal of joining this squadron. Great idea and alot of very good pilots in this age group.

Not really crazy about most of the names, but MOM is the best - short and sweet and, mean!

Remember: MOM knows best!

If not on the list Rickenfaker would be a great member! He is not only very good but very helpful with tips in the game.

I am definately in on your idea. Thank you Wig for getting this together. I would not have been able to do this, my Forum skills are not at 100%. If there is anyway I can help though, let me know.

I have not voted yet. But I came across a British Term called "OAP's) stands for, "Old Age Pensioner's" I was thinking of what might look good above the aircraft flying around. I really like "MOM" . I'll vote later today.

I got my glasses when I couldn't read the numbers on the sides of the airplanes from the Tower anymore. That was at age 50 though.. Will this game actually correct our vision??

Time to offer everyone a raise lol. I think it's inevitable that squads will change a bit until they actually begin to have significance in terms of gameplay.

Calvin is definitely a nice kid with a great attitude, dogss. As soon as he's legal to vote I say we go after him with a huge signing bonus!

btw, I love the trademark symbol! That kind of attention to detail is partly what we're gonna be all about.

Hey, do you - or any of us here - know Rickenfaker's forum ID? I can't find anything closer than "Ricken" on the list. That might be him, someone please confirm and I'll throw him an invitation.

Sorry calvers mate I really like enigma but the option of joining an old guys squad is just too tempting ! I don't feel like a freak now and I can tell my wife I'm not the only old player in dogfight she thinks I'm a bit nuts playing everyday.

And on the plus side there will be another great squad out there I think enigma is abit top heavy with aces at the mo ! Heh heh it will make squad wars more balanced I reckon.

Seattle...far as I'm concerned, you're in. Any dissenting votes? (like that's gonna happen, right!)

Also added to our roster:

Hat in the Ring

NJ Devil

I pitched it to Rickenfaker, pretty sure he'll be joining as well, he sounded enthusiastic about the idea.

Dent, do follow up with Ricken if you can. As I said above, I met him in-mission last night, gave him the quick pitch and steered him to this thread and he seemed to dig everything about it. What a pleasant guy. Exactly the caliber of cohort we want wing to wing with us. He may have been concerned about age range, whether about his being too old or not quite old enough, not sure. When we talk - and if you're reading this now, Rickenfaker - specific age is of no concern. It's our hook, our bond, but it cuts across a wide age range and we get to make the calls. I would like so much to have him with us that I'm thinking of ponying up for a team jacket and spaghetti dinner. It was a good enough signing bonus to get Gordie Howe to join the Detroit Red Wings, that should be good enough for anyone to join anything. (Gordie, rest assured, wishes he'd held out for several million and a car! Ah, the simpler days when athletes sold aluminum siding in the off season just to get by...)
