He is 29th in the general classification after the good mountain stage today !
Are there mountains in your area? I only see the sea (for your good navigators) and the meadow (for your sheep and your rugby players) LOL

New Zealand is a young country geographically, like Japan, so not all eroded flat. Plenty of variety. Plenty of ups.
 My local hard training ride has a half hour climb, with some 15% gradients (I do them at old man pace !) You ride? . Tough result today for Marc Hirschi. He deserved to win that stage. |

The nearest we've been was the drive from Paris to Nancy. Similar? . Today is rest day. Rest for the viewers. Don't have to get up early to watch.  |

The inhabitants of Lyon paid for the statue to honor their king Louis le Grand, n°14, named "roi soleil", who built Versailles palace. He liked to disguise himself as Apollo.. lol. It was before James Cook Some time later, they applauded when Paris cut off the head of his great-grandson! The statue has been removed several times in history. Today, it is the meeting point for lovers ...

Tomorrow the Tour de France will pass by the shores of Lake Paladru, a lake country at the foot of the Alps at the edge of which was born Adolphe (sic) Célestin PEGOUD (1889-1915) 1st ace of WW1.
LOL He has his little museum there.

On the morning of August 31, 1915, Second Lieutenant Célestin Adolphe Pégoud leads his last fight. He is alone opposed to Corporal Otto Kandulski - who was his pupil LOL - and to the gunner Lieutenant Von Bilitz. Pégoud was shot in the head at an altitude of 2,000 m above Petit-Croix, east of Belfort, at the age of 26. He has just been appointed knight of the Legion of Honor and has been awarded the Croix de Guerre with palms. He never knew it. On September 6, the German crew returned to the scene of the fight and threw a laurel wreath bearing the inscription “In Pégoud, died a hero for his country”.
