I haven't been on here in ages. But I just found an old PM from the original OP of this thread and he gave me the story to repost on this thread. Here it is:
I loaded up my plane with water & rations. I packed my survival gear along with my trusty rifle.
As I took off down the runway, I looked as my fellow pilots headed straight toward the enemy base. I knew my mission was along a different path. As I climbed higher, I looked down wishing I could be with them.
Higher and higher I climbed until I could see them no more. I hoped and prayed for their survival. What I do, I must do alone. Through the clouds I travel.
Higher. Higher still. The lakes look like mere puddles. It looks so peaceful from up here. You would have no idea what war wages below.
I level out at 10,000 feet. Time for a quick swig of water. As I listen to the loud drone of my engine, I begin to hope, not so much for my survival, but for the success of my mission.
Some time later, the enemy base looms into view below. My heart races.
Just before I get directly above it, I dive.
Down. Down! The wind is rushing fiercely past me! Lower! Lower!
An enemy plane spots me and races up toward me. He drops in and shoots me from behind. One more hit and I'm done for. I dodge and weave. He tries getting his shots in but misses.
I'm in range. First bomb drops. Direct hit! The second drops. Direct hit again! I bank the plane to the right and see another plane heading toward my comrades and firing on them. I get behind him and open fire, blowing him out of the sky!
Just then, the plane behind me scores a hit on me and my craft catches fire. I grab my rifle and jump. I pop the chute. I aim the rifle at the plane that just shot me down and strangely enough, took him down in just 3 shots.
I was in enemy territory, so after I reached the ground, I shed the parachute and made my way into the woods on foot to avoid capture.
My survival gear got me through the night. The next day I made it to the village by the lake. I stopped into the saloon and bought some of their fine ale.
All I need now is for someone to pick me up to bring me back to base. Is there a telegraph office in this village, or will I need to set up a signal fire?
