Thanks Digby! I wish! You know all of us boomerangers dream of making a living off of boomerangs but so far we only know of 3 people who have done it and many many have tried. The weird thing about boomerangs is that everyone is fascinated but few people buy and even less can throw any boomerang over say $30 Ask Slender and Jacob it's a lot harder than it looks to give the amount of spin to get it back. So while everyone thinks they would buy, it seems to be a lot more of "hey cool a boomerang..." and on they go. Two guys I know Dave Hendricks and Bill Glover sell their booms on ebay and they crank out boom after boom but hardly make any money. It's tough sport to make money in....it's much more about the love of the sport and the fun of the people. It seems we always sell our booms underpriced since we wouldn't want to over charge a friend.
See to me boomerangs are the physical solution to the universe. What I mean is that whne you consider all the forces and variables at play...just in the environment you have wind speed, wind direction, wind pockets, turbulence, humidity, gravity, elevation, air density and in the boomerang you have the angle of attack of the wings, the dihedral (tips up or down) or the wing, the thickness of the material, the shape of the wing, the shape of the boom, the moment of inertia of the boom, the spin rate, the angle it's launched, the layover at launch, launch direction with respect to wind, the angular momentum generated and I am sure I am missing some. The fact all of this is at play and I can stand and have that boom travel in a simple circle and return to where I am standing says I am looking at the solution to the complexities of the physical world. That is why I'm into it! And the fascinating thing is every ancient culture had at least throwsticks and many had returning boomerangs. The oldest throwstick is 30,000 years old made from mammoth tusk. The Egyptians even had returning boomerangs. They wont let us throw either..we asked
